Detroit Pistons vs. Dallas Mavericks

Game 55 | American Airlines Center | 8 February 2022

“Detroit vs. Everybody” they say; but, looks like the Dallas Mavericks were competition enough. The Dallas Mavericks started out strong and ended stronger, with a 30 point lead that allowed the bench to get some minutes.

It’s no surprise that the Mavericks had such a dominate game against the Pistons, they are 14th in the Eastern Conference and have only won 12 games this season, after all. But, the NBA is kind of a funny game and respect is always due.

Luka Doncic was turning eyes by the end of the first with fifteen points and on track for a triple-double by halftime (20PTS, 5REB, 7AST). With a generous lead, Head Coach, Jason Kidd decided to sit the All-Star, Doncic, and give the bench an opportunity.

Doncic finished the night with video game numbers, again.

33PTS, 7REB, 11AST, 1STL, 2BLK

If you’ve been keeping up with the Mavericks then you’ve noticed; not only is Doncic averaging a triple double, but SG, Jalen Brunson is only a digits behind the All-Star (Doncic). Brunson has had back-to-back nights contributing highly to the overall success of the team. Playing only 25:47 minutes last night, Brunson put up 21PTS, 1REB, 4AST.

But the star of the show was Trey Burke. Trey Burke has been with the Mavericks since 2019; but hasn’t gotten many opportunities as he enters the later years of his career. However, Burke put all of the assumptions to the side and dominated the fourth quarter. Not only was he a play maker; but, his basketball IQ was showing. The way he moved the offense was beautiful to watch and going 4 for 6 on 3 point attempts was even prettier.

Burke finished the night with 18PTS, 3REB, 1AST, 1STL. After the game he shared: “The opportunity will come, it will present itself if you prepare.”

Another good night to be an #MFFL. The Mavericks take on the final competitor of their home stand, the Los Angeles Clippers for a two-game series, Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
