Atlanta Hawks vs. Dallas Mavericks

Game 54 | American Airlines Center | 6 February 2022

Halfway through the longest home stand of the season, tonight was another electric night in the American Airlines Center. If you’re a fan of the NBA, you’ve been keeping up with the Dallas Mavericks or at least aware of what this team is doing because they are staying on prime time. That’s right, back to back games that captured the attention of ESPN.

A highly anticipated point guard matchup between Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks) and Luka Doncic. Only problem, one point guard showed up. Luka Doncic recorded his 45th triple-double putting up video game numbers, once again.

L. Doncic: 18PTS, 10REB, 11AST, 1STL

Doncic’s 45th Career Triple Double was special. But, let’s face it; in his last four games he is averaging a triple double (31.2PPG, 10.2RPG, 11.2APG).

In the third quarter, Luka Doncic and Jalen Brunson were both benched due to a foul out. Although this had potential to give the Hawks an opportunity to take advantage; the Mavericks bench proved that this team is efficient from top to bottom. Trey Burke (Point Guard), Josh Green (Shooting Guard) and Dwight Powell (Power Forward) captured and carried the monument with dominance, scoring 26 points in the third.

The Mavericks defense was able to hold another team under 100 points and as Head Coach, Jason Kidd (Mavericks), says, “that isn’t easy to do in the NBA”. This game looked promising for the Mavericks when the team held Trae Young to just four points at the end of the first. For the Hawks, Trae Young took a backseat to Forward, John Collins, who dominated the game with 22PTS.

Last but certainly not least, two players share the responsibility of this Mavericks win: Reggie Bullock and Jalen Brunson.

R. Bullock: 22PTS, 9REB, 2AST, 2STL, 1BLK

J. Brunson: 22PTS, 5REB, 5AST, 1STL

Jalen Brunson heated up early on and carried the team until the half with 18PTS, while Doncic was next in line with 13PTS. Reggie Bullock owned the third and four with consecutive three’s moving in poetic motion.

Tonight was a good night to be an #MFFL.

The Mavericks will host the Pistons, Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. on Bally Sports Southwest.
