Dallas Mavericks vs. Miami Heat
Game 58 | FTX Arena | 15 February 2022
A Cinderella story is being written in Dallas Texas and I am not talking about them Cowboys. The Dallas Mavericks have proved again and again how badly they want to be considered as a serious contender in the playoff conversation. Earlier this season, the Mavericks defeated the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference (Golden State Warriors) in American Airlines Center on Dirk Day, January 5th. In the same week, the hosted the No. 1 seed in the East, the Chicago Bulls and walked away with the surprising victory. The only top team that the Mavericks have been unsuccessful in securing a win is when they play against the Phoenix Suns; but, let’s be honest… every team is unsuccessful against the Phoenix Suns. Tonight, Luka Doncic and the Mavericks clinched a large upset against the Beast in the East, the Miami Heat (107-99).
This season, Jason Kidd has been creative with the Starting Five to say the least. With the Porzingis trade, Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans, made their debut as Mavericks players. Bertan made a splash in the four quarter putting up 12PTS, 3REB, 1AST, 3-7 3PM, in just 13 minutes of play.
The Mavericks were clicking on all cylinders: shooting 43.9% in 3 pointers, 63.6% in free throws and dominating on points off turnovers (21).
A large factor in tonight’s win over the Heat was due to the fact that NBA Star and Shooting Guard, Tyler Herro was unable to play. But, the Heat are No. 1 in the East for a reason… Jimmy Butler recorded team high, 29PTS.
Jalen Brunson and Luka Doncic carried the floor tonight and Maxi Kleber came off the bench, tying Brunson in effort.
J. Brunson: 19PTS, 6REB, 6AST, 2STL, 60% 3PP
L. Doncic: 21PTS, 10REB, 6AST, 1BLK,
M. Kleber: 19PTS, 6AST, 50% FGP
The Mavericks also held the Heat to under 100 points. As Jason Kidd likes to say, “that’s pretty hard to do in the NBA.”
