Dallas Mavericks vs. New Orleans Pelicans

Game 59 | Smoothie King Center | 17 February 2022

Another night where Luka Doncic almost makes history? Just a Thursday for the twenty-two-year-old, three time NBA All-Star.

The young star is so good that he is now breaking his own records. In the last five games, Doncic has put up 199 points. Doncic dominated the Clippers in the first game of a two-game match up with a new Career High of 51 points (Feb. 10). He turned heads and grabbed the attention of the league in the second game of of the match up when he put up 45 points. His excellence continued tonight as he recorded 49 points.

L. Doncic: 49 PTS, 15REB, 8AST, 7-14 3PM

The Mavericks started things strong with 45 points in the first (Pelicans 27), but the Pelicans caught momentum in the second.

A contributor that we’re getting used to delivering is Jalen Brunson. If you’ve been reading my articles, you know I am an advocate for Brunson getting paid this summer. It speaks to his game that with Luka on or off the court, having a recording breaking night or just another day at the office, Brunson will pull his weight regardless. After the game, Brunson spoke on the teams attitude towards the All-Star break.

It had to be said and I didn’t really care that I had to say it. The break hasn’t started. It starts tomorrow. Today, we have a game to play and win. Tomorrow is vacation. We can’t think about vacation before it starts.

And that is why I am a Jalen Brunson fan.

The Mavericks have been the best team in basketball as of late. Is the All-Star break coming at the perfect time, or will it put a pause on Mavericks Madness? Only time will tell.
