Todd Jones, former Major League Baseball pitcher for 16 years, but to me… he is just Dad (a very cool Dad). Drafted in 1989 by the Houston Astros in the first round, my Dad had the honor of playing the game he loved until he was 40 years old with eight teams. Accomplishing milestones he only dreamed about as child: MLB All Star (2000), Rolaids Relief Pitcher of the Year (2000), American League Champion and joined the 300 Club (300 Career Saves). He did it all with a smile on his face, joy in his heart and allowed the Lord to direct his path in the rollercoaster of professional sports. A lot of ups and downs, I guess that’s why the called him The Rollercoaster, but he remained the same.

16 years of dedicated and sacrifice. I believe this is why I choose my profession and why I have such a passion and respect for the game and anyone who dedicates their life to it.

All these photos mean a lot to me; but my favorite are the last two. In the last two photos, my Dad request to visit his old friend, Mr. Ray at Comerica Park. Mr. Ray had been a season ticket holder for the Detroit Tigers for 25 years, in the same spot, for every home game. A dedicated fan and a one-of-a-kind man. Mr. Ray was one of the fans that showed love, compassion and encouragement no matter the number on the score board. My Dad and Mr. Ray built a relationship over the years (all of the weather delays and shut outs really give you a lot of time to talk, and really talk). Mr. Ray carried a “Todd Jones Bobble Head” in his backpack with pride 25 years later just as if it was released yesterday. This is a tribute to honor the beautiful and joyful life of Mr. Ray. Truly a blessing to me and my family.
